GODSELLS CHEESE

Liz Godsell and her ‘cheese team’, including husband Bryan, are behind the range of award-winning, hand-made cheeses created at Church Farm in Leonard Stanley. The cheeses are named after local areas or local legends and each has a cheesy story to tell. There’s the Three Virgins, the Village Gossip and the Cockadilly Chilli, alongside more recognisable varieties such as single and double Gloucesters and a full-flavoured waxed cheddar.

One of their most popular cheeses is the award-winning Traditional Single Gloucester. This cheese has a P.D.O. – Protected Designated Origin, meaning it can only be made in Gloucestershire with milk from the rare breed Gloucester Cattle. There are five well-loved Gloucester cows at Godsell’s farm, who produce the milk to make this ancient cheese, which is traditionally matured and cloth bound.

Their award-winning Traditional Double Gloucester is more fruity in flavour with a more fudgy-like texture than its single brother. Godsell’s own cheddar, the Leonard Stanley, won a gold at the World Cheese Awards and is traditionally matured for at least seven months, and cloth bound, creating a real depth of taste that continues minutes after being eaten.
