HAYLES FRUIT FARM

Planted in 1880 by Lord Sudeley on the outskirts of Winchcombe, the 134-acre Hayles Fruit Farm has been farmed by the Harrell family since the 1950s. The home-grown strawberries are eagerly anticipated from May to September, while in late summer and autumn, there are 12 varieties of apples, two varieties of pears and plums available to buy or pick on the farm. Single variety apple juice and the popular Badger’s Apple cider is also available year-round.

The Cotswold soil provides the ideal ground for growing fruit – the clay-loam soil is rich in natural nutrients and calcium, a mineral that binds fruit cells to give better shelf life. But you’d still better hurry – their fruit doesn’t hang around for long!
