HOP SHED BREWERY

What can be more locally-minded than a brewery on a hop farm? Based on the Worcestershire/Herefordshire border, The Hopshed Brewery, founded by Sarah and Hani Saleh, is located in a disused chicken shed, which naturally, has given rise to the names of the beers – all named after chicken breeds.

As you would expect, the beers are all made from 100% British hops, mostly sourced from the farm itself or from other local growers. This collaboration means that the brewers can experiment with flavours and experimental hop varieties. For example, the brewery’s Pekin Pale Ale is hopped exclusively from an experimental hop variety, resulting in a beer with delightful tropical fruit flavours.

Since launching in 2016, the brewery has won a number of awards, including a Great Taste Award for Frizzle IPA just a year after launch. In 2019, five of the bottled beers won a total of ten Great Taste Award stars, with Frizzle IPA this time picking up the highest accolade of three gold stars.

As well as a commitment to using local hops, sustainability is at the heart of the brewery which works to reduce mileage, save water and minimise waste. The bottled and mini casks are also vegan.
