ST MARY’S CHURCH, RIPPLE HELD THEIR ANNUAL HERITAGE OPEN DAY AND HUNDREDS CAME!

 “Everyday Histories” was the theme for this year’s event and St Mary’s really brought it to life, unpacking the Social History of Farming Life in 17th Century Ripple.

Despite it being a pretty damp Sunday, over 370 visitors made the trip and raised an incredible £1,800 towards ensuring this Grade I listed building enjoys the future it deserves.

Visitors were able to learn about life in Ripple 400 years ago, how people lived and worked, what they wore, what they earned, their cost of living, what they ate and what they drank. They were even treated to tea, with cakes and biscuits from 17th century recipes, all washed down with a ‘small beer’ and ‘perry’ so popular in those times.
