SEVERN CIDER

The Bull family has been making cider at the family home in Awre in the Forest of Dean since 1956. Set within four acres of heritage orchards and gardens alongside the River Severn, the site also houses a cider mill where the award-winning artisan ciders are now produced.

Only unfertilised, unsprayed, locally-grown apples and pears go into Severn Cider’s drinks. As well as the onsite orchard, the family is replanting cider and perry trees in new orchards at nearby Blakeney, home of the famous Blakeney Red perry pear.

Picking, sorting and washing is done by hand after which the juice is pulped then transferred to the rack and cloth press where the juice is squeezed out. Fermentation takes place in oak casks until the cider is finally ready to be tasted and then bottled. The distinctive labels for the bottles are specially commissioned prints by local artist Steve Hyslop that depict the rural landscape of Gloucestershire.
