SUMMER’S NOT JUST FOR BEER AND BURGERS!

Summer is for entertaining and nothing beats a BBQ. But this year, think beyond the usual burgers and beer – there’s so much more fun you can have if you use a bit of imagination. Here’s what we’ll be serving up this summer, come rain or shine!

For the grill:

The BBQ offerings from our local meat supplier Todenham Manor Farm are exceptional. Yes, you can have burgers if you must – and it doesn’t get much better than Todenham Manor Farm’s Angus Grass-Fed Burgers – but for the more adventurous, how about one of their creative kebabs? Ready prepared, they’re the easiest thing to fling on the barbie! Here’s what we recommend:

Black garlic beef kebabs – succulent home-grown beef, expertly coated in a black garlic blend rub.

Chicken kebabs – rubbed and coated in another of our favourite locally-made products, Tubby Tom’s rubs and dusts.

Lamb and halloumi kebabs - marinated in rosemary and mint and snuggled up between creamy halloumi chunks. …

For dessert:

In summer, you just need to keep it simple – think seasonal berries topped with a special ice cream, and maybe some Cotswold Handmade Meringues crushed in for good measure. And don’t just automatically reach for the Ben & Jerry’s – try a locally made upgrade from Bennett’s, a family farm in Worcester that has been in the dairy farm and ice cream business for over 100 years! You’ll find a rainbow of interesting flavours, from childhood favourites, raspberry ripple, mint choc chip and strawberry, to more grown-up salted caramel, rum & raisin and honey & ginger.

To drink:

Yes, beer is synonymous with BBQs, but there’s nothing quite like a chilled glass of rosé on a hot day. A pale French Provencal rosé is uber fashionable, but it’s also worth taking a look at our home-grown varieties too, especially from our new local wine supplier, the award-winning Deer Park Wines of Worcester. Here are some of our favourite local rosés:

Deer Park Rosé 2023 – a Decanter World Wine Awards Bronze winner, this is the vineyard’s best vintage yet.

Three Choirs Vineyard Rosé 2023 – with hints of summer fruit and English hedgerows, this rosé has a lovely, easy drinking style.

Woodchester Valley Vineyard Rosé Brut 2021 – this fine example of a sparkling rosé won Gold at the Wine GB Awards in 2024.

You’ll find all of these and more summer entertaining ideas at our store in Upton-upon-Severn – don’t forget to scan your Taste Club card or app at the till for even better offers!
